The digitisation of several lakhs of documents has been going on at the Nellore district Collectorate here as part of the efforts to switch over to the paperless administration in the next few months.

For introducing the online documentation and file processing in all levels of administration, training and provision of new computers is continuing for the last one month. The officials at the mandal and village levels have also been asked to learn email services and the process of approving files through digital signatures.

“All the officials at the mandal-level offices have been asked to learn the niceties. They are being given training and it is going to be online in future,” said Joint Collector A.Md. Imtiyaz.

It has been identified that there are a little over 100 different offices and departments relating to the government in Nellore district. The e-office method is being introduced in some of them like the Revenue Department so as to assess the effectiveness of the transition.

In the district Collectorate itself, it was found that there nearly 10 lakh documents as of now for the sake of digitalisation. Some documents were being kept since the 1940s and 1950s.

The district officials are expecting all the employees to understand and switch over to the new online mode in due course of time. Those not able to immediately understand the system will be given additional training for the same in the coming months.

The paperless administration is said to be very effective in removing needless and excess delays in the processing of files with the necessary approvals likely to be given in short span of time in future.
