A large number of students drawn from different colleges and schools attended the Samaikyandhra Vidyarthi Sankharavam held at the sprawling Sarvodaya College grounds opposite RTC bus stand in Nellore on Friday.
Boys and girls arrived at the meeting with banners and raised slogans in favour of the integration of the State.
The GT Road witnessed traffic jams following the arrival of the students in rallies to the venue of the public meeting.
The police diverted traffic at important junctions during the meeting.
The student leaders asserted that their protests would continue and the agitation would be intensified if the Central Government tried to go ahead with its plans to implement the bifurcation of the State. They said that the division was not acceptable to them under any circumstances.
Anam Ranga Mayur Reddy, son of Nellore Rural MLA and senior Congress leader Anam Vivekananda Reddy, said that the Congress was to be blamed for the present crisis in Seemandhra regions as it was in power in the State and at the Centre.
He said that there was no alternative but to withdraw the decision on bifurcation as the people were very agitated over this sudden development.
Mr. Reddy further said that the students would once again start their large-scale protest programmes in the form of dharnas and rallies the moment they got indications about the Government trying to implement the decision on bifurcation.
Vidyarthi JAC convener D. Anjaiah threatened to intensify their agitation with active support of l students who were very much upset over the grim prospects on the educational and employment. Mr. Anjaiah said that students were ready to make any sacrifice for the sake of keeping the State united.
