The State government has appointed Nellore Collector Srikant Nagulapalli as the Special Commissioner for the proposed Capital Region Development Authority as well as the capital area.

The development comes within days of the State Cabinet giving approval in principle to the Bill envisaging the constitution of the CRDA as an umbrella organisation for monitoring the development regulation of the new capital city region. The CRDA had been proposed with 22 members under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to oversee the construction of the new capital, including the development of infrastructure in the region, based on a master plan and a special development plan.

In the orders issued on Tuesday, Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao said that Mr. Srikant would be replaced by M. Janaki who is serving as Additional Commissioner of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation at present.

Meanwhile, the government had restructured the committee constituted for inclusive and sustainable agricultural development in the State under the chairmanship of CESS Chairman R. Radhakrishna as a commission. In the amendment orders issued on Tuesday, the government said that the chairman could co-opt members in the commission according to the need.

The chairman had been vested with the powers to constitute sub-committees on the broader themes relating to the terms of reference of the commission and could nominate chairman and members of these panels. The sub-committees, in turn, could co-opt members with the permission of the commission chairman. The chairman could also commission papers on themes relating to the terms of reference.
