Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has stressed the need for isolating criminals and corrupt from politics and alleged that the “politically unemployed” opposition parties were trying to obstruct development.

The Chief Minister on Thursday expressed concern over some elements creating unwarranted hurdles tarnishing the image of the State at a time when the Government was busy implementing a spree of welfare and developmental activities. The Opposition that was bereft of issues was trying to raise caste and regional issues to disturb the development process.

This could be seen from the fact that the Opposition parties had tried to obstruct the construction of new capital Amaravati, the Pattiseema project and other initiatives launched by the Government. “The main Opposition went ahead in its efforts to defame Vijayawada on the call money issue while its leaders had disrespected the office of the Legislative Assembly Speaker,” he said.

Mr. Naidu held a teleconference with party leaders and public representatives and explained them about the efforts of the State Government for the past one and a half years. Visakhapatnam which was battered by Hudhud was now hosting the prestigious international events. After the CII’s partnership summit, the city was now playing host to the International Fleet Review.

The Government, he said, had initiated steps to accelerate developmental process. The officials on their part should ensure full utilisation of the MGNREGA funds. The State was currently utilising around Rs. 3,500 crore under the scheme and there was potential to scale this up to Rs. 6,500 crore.

The Government had plans to make Rayalaseema a hub of horticulture activities and there was a need to instil a sense of ownership among the people to make them partner in the initiatives.

The party leaders from the village to State level should accordingly educate the people about the series of schemes launched for their welfare.

The Chief Minister clarified that the Government was firm on protecting the interests of the backward classes and there would be no compromise in this regard. The party leaders should speak to the representatives of the communities and instil confidence among them in this direction.
