Nearly 300 people fall ill after lunch at wedding

Nearly 300 people belonging to Kolavennu village of Kankipadu mandal were taken ill, reportedly after having food that was served at a wedding reception. The villagers who had lunch reported various health complaints including vomiting and diarrhoea by evening.

Krishna District Medical and Health Officer R. Naga Malleswari rushed to the spot accompanied by the staff. “The villagers are out of danger. A medical camp under the 104 rural health services has been set up,” Ms. Naga Malleswari told The Hindu . Kankipadu police led by Sub Inspector Mr. Haneesh have rushed to the spot and are co-ordinating efforts to ensure timely medical services. “The number of persons complaining of vomiting sensation and diarrhoea has been increasing. However, nearly 300 persons have been brought to the medical camp,” Mr. Haneesh told The Hindu over phone. The Medical and Health Department officials collected food samples to ascertain the reason for the illness. Police are investigating the matter.
