A narcotic drug peddling racket operated by a Ghanaian from Goa was busted by the city police on Friday. He and two of his associates from Hyderabad have been arrested.

Three students from the city, who used to purchase and consume drugs, have also landed behind the bars.

The drug racket began when Akshay Kannoli (18) came in contact with a foreigner, Adefule Michael (37), while holidaying in Goa, the Hyderabad Joint Commissioner (Crimes), T. Prabhakar Rao, said at a press conference.

Adefule Michael was already supplying narcotic drugs like LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) and cocaine to customers in Goa and Hyderabad.

Akshay began purchasing LSD stamps each for Rs. 600 and selling the same at thrice the price to customers in Hyderabad.

Eventually, he joined hands with Shishir Chauhan – his senior in school – and both began selling the narcotic drugs to customers in and around Hyderabad. P. Rahul Sunny (18) and Kapish Agarwal (19), both first year degree students, and A. Rohith Rao (23), an engineering student, who were allegedly purchasing drugs from them were also caught.

Export of clothes

Adefule Michael came to India in 2012 on a business visa and started exporting clothes to Ghana, after purchasing them from Mumbai and Hyderabad.

He learnt about the sale of narcotic drugs after getting introduced to some drug peddlers hailing from Nigeria and living in Mumbai and Goa.

The racket was busted by special teams led by Inspectors of Task Force (West), L. Raja Venkat Reddy and CCS Anti-Narcotics Cell, Chand Pasha.

Forty eight grams of cocaine, 207 stamps of LSD, 10 grams of charas and 12 mobile phones were seized from the accused.
