Overcoming grief, a young boy appeared for Eamcet examination hours after his father died in a road accident on the outskirts of the town on Thursday morning.
Devanagara Uday and his father Devanagara Raghavendar (40), residents of Bhongir town, 50 km from here were proceeding on a two-wheeler to Nalgonda town to reach the examination centre. The Eamcet (Engineering and medical common entrance test) authorities had repeatedly announced that students, who reach the centre, even a minute late would not be allowed to appear for the test.
The father-son duo started from their residence in Singannagudem Colony at 6 a.m. and reached Mahatma Gandhi university, located about 12 km from the examination centre when a speeding truck hit their bike from the rear, fatally running over the father leading to his instantaneous death.
Mr. Uday, fell on the other side of the road and escaped with scratches. An ambulance arrived at the spot and shifted the body to Nalgonda Government Hospital mortuary. Even before the grief stricken mother and other family members arrived at the hospital, inconsolable Mr. Uday left the mortuary saying that his father always wanted him to score good rank in the Eamcet examination. “Now I have to achieve it,” he said controlling his tears and proceeded to the examination centre at N.G. College grounds.
J. Yellaiah, friend of the deceased, both of whom are electricians, said both of them had planned to come to Nalgonda in a bus as his daughter was also attending the examination at the same centre. At the eleventh hours, he said Raghavendar had changed his mind and decided to drop his son in his bike, while he and his daughter arrived on a bus.
