The Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu has written a letter to Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy seeking restoration of demolished fish tanks over 7,500 acres and allotting the land to landless poor in Krishna and West Godavari districts.
He requested Mr. Reddy to pass on instructions to Fisheries Department to accord speedy permission for new fish farming tanks and regularise existing tanks.
Contribution to economy
The fish and prawn farming contributed substantially to the economy of the State but the farmers did not have the required official support.
Instead, they were subjected to harassment in getting approvals for excavation of new ponds and getting the existing ones regularised. The failure to get the tanks regularised resulted in lack of bank credit, the letter said.
The issue of fish tanks also figured in Mr. Naidu’s deliberations with party functionaries at Parliamentary constituency level meetings today.
He reviewed the party programmes in Warangal, Mahbubabad, Khammam and Eluru constituencies.
A press release said Mr. Naidu urged the leaders to attract sections of public that distanced themselves from the party for various reasons.
To move resolution
MLA E. Dayakar Rao told a press conference that the party will move a resolution demanding separate Telangana if elected to power. He said the TDP was prepared to give any undertaking that would ensure concession of the demand.
Another MLA S. Venkata Veeraiah demanded an explanation from the government on the appointment of members to the AP Public Service Commission which attracted flak in recruitment for government jobs.
