Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu pulled off a coup by managing to get an appointment with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Mr. Naidu will meet Mr. Abe on Friday and is expected to seek Japan’s cooperation in the building of the capital of Andhra Pradesh, a string of 13 smart cities he had been planning for the State, introduction of bullet trains and establishing automobile units.

Ministers and officials accompanying him on his five-day tour of Japan are stated to be excited over the development as the Indian Embassy gave them an outside chance of such a meeting taking place when they started their journey from Hyderabad on November 24. Mr. Naidu on Thursday oversaw signing of four MoUs with Sumitomo Corporation.
