A 100-foot pylon has been constructed in a record time of 100 hours at Subledu crossroads near Madhiripuram in Tirumalayapalem mandal to mark the completion of 100 days of “Vastunna Meekosam” padayatra by Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday.
It coincides with the 31nd anniversary of the late N. T. Rama Rao assuming office as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on January 9, 1983, after a historic win of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the Assembly elections.
The giant pylon was constructed by 400 workers headed by a team of eminent engineers under the supervision of Khammam MP Nama Nageshwara Rao.
The TDP district unit has made elaborate arrangements to celebrate the 100th day of Mr. Naidu’s padayatra at Madhiripuram. Mr. Naidu is all set to inaugurate the pylon on Wednesday morning before hitting the road.
According to TDP sources, Mr. Naidu will preside over the party’s general body meeting and later address a public meeting at Madhiripuram in the afternoon. He will cover five mandals, including Khammam rural and urban, during his six-day padayatra in the district. He will celebrate Sankranti festival in Khammam on January 13, the party sources added.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nageswara Rao, along with senior party leaders and MLAs, reviewed the arrangements for the pylon inauguration.
Speaking to media persons, he said Mr. Naidu would inaugurate the pylon and unveil the 10-foot tall statue of N.T. Rama Rao in the village. Huge cranes were used to erect the pylon with the support of iron anglers and other sophisticated equipment, he said. Important details of Mr. Naidu’s padayatra in different districts had been engraved on the granite plaque of the pylon.
