Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu has decided to go on an indefinite fast shortly in protest against the way the Centre had gone ahead approving the bifurcation of the State, senior leaders of the party said on Friday.

Though the party is in the process of finalising the date and the venue for Mr. Naidu's fast, leaders indicated that it could be either in Hyderabad or Delhi. Mr. Naidu expressed his desire to go on fast at a meeting of the party's senior leaders here on Friday.

He told party men that the Centre's decision should not go unchallenged as it triggered widespread public protests and plunged the state into crisis. When a large section of people hit the road, the Centre remained oblivious not even making any effort to either address their concerns or bring them to discussion table, he said.
