Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu has proposed to go on a 15-day bus yatra – ‘Atma gaurava yatra’ – from Kothavalasa in Vizianagaram district from August 25.
The party drew up a three-day programme which will take him through Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam districts and continue the same depending upon public response and emerging political scenario.
Sources said the tour might be stopped halfway depending on the political developments.
They added that Mr. Naidu aimed to target the Congress in his tour by emphasising that the stakeholders were not consulted before taking the decision.
The decision, lacking acceptability by one region, was taken for political gain to win over TRS and YSR Congress. The yatra is viewed as a follow-up to his ‘mee kosam vastunna’ padayatra that culminated in Visakhapatnam in May since Kothavalasa is close by.
Mr. Naidu took the decision at a meeting with senior party leaders on Thursday. TDP politburo member Y. Ramakrishnudu said the yatra will cover Vizianagaram and Srikakulam in the first two days. The future programme will be chalked out later.
