Andhra Pradesh Congress Party’s Kapu Sadhikara Vibhagam leaders Naraharisetti Narasimha Rao and P. Suri Babu have demanded that the government permit the padayatra of Mudragada Padmanabham and warned the Chief Minister against playing with the sentiments of the community which, they claimed, constitutes about 30% of the vote bank.

‘No request made

to BC panel’

They have alleged that the government did not even put a request to the BC Commission for inclusion of the Kapus in the list of Backward Classes, which is nothing but cheating the Kapus who have been peacefully agitating to get their demand conceded.

Addressing the media here on Thursday, Mr. Narasimha Rao said the Chief Minister reneged on his election-time commitment to provide reservations to Kapu, Telaga, Balija, and Ontari castes within six months of coming to power.

He stated that the padayatra proposed was being supported by all sections of people, cutting across political lines, but the Chief Minister was suppressing the democratic form of protest.

Mr. Padmanabham had even let his route map known to the CMO.
