Amid campaign: Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy unfurling the national flag in Nandyal on Tuesday.

Leader of the Opposition and YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of giving up the demand for Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh after being “caught red-handed” in the cash-for-vote scam in Telangana.

In his road show on the 7th day at Moolasagaram in Nandyal, he asserted that while the A.P. Reorganisation Act had assured SCS for five years, Mr. Naidu promised to get it for a period of 15 years, but shelved the demand after a case had been booked against him.

Alleging that Mr. Naidu had duped all sections of people, he said neither the pre-election promises nor promises made after becoming Chief Minister were fulfilled.

Charging Mr. Naidu with trying to hoodwink people again in Nandyal, he said people should hold such leaders by their collar and question them.

The TDP was trying to muster support of the people by its money power, he alleged.

Mr. Jagan reiterated that credibility was his strength as he neither had money power, police support nor official position.

Calling upon the people to vote against injustice, he sought election of the YSRCP candidate Silpa Mohan Reddy.

Some women tied rakhis to Mr. Jagan during the road show.

Earlier, Mr. Jagan hoisted the national flag at Gandhinagar and saluted it. He went round Bommalasatram, Vijayabhaskar Nagar, Noonepalle flyover, Koilkuntla junction, SC Colony, Islampet and Viswasapuram.

Quit posts: Chakrapani

Meanwhile, YSRCP leader Silpa Chakrapani Reddy, whose resignation as MLC was accepted on Tuesday, demanded that Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya and MLAs who had defected to the TDP resign from the Legislative Assembly before seeking votes for the ruling party. Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy admitted him into the YSRCP after he tendered his resignation as MLC.

Mr. Chakrapani Reddy told the media in Nandyal that his family was committed to moral values.

Mr. Reddy asserted that his resignation had boosted the YSRCP image.

Accusing the TDP leaders of distorting his speech to enthuse partymen, he said his family had respect for the Arya Vysyas.
