Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday said he would ensure that State police had the best and latest technology and wanted the force to follow the dictum, “police should be invisible and policing should be visible”.

Inaugurating the Andhra Pradesh State police headquarters office, built in 10 months flat on the premises of the APSP 6th Battalion at Tadepalli in the capital region, Mr. Naidu wanted police personnel to be “fit and smart”. To control crime and gradually eradicate it, officials should analyse crimes every month and take necessary steps,” he said, adding that he wished every police person had an own house.

The state-of-the-art five-storey building houses all the State level wings of the police department and the office of the Director-General of Police.

Addressing police personnel after the inauguration, Mr. Naidu appreciated the way the headquarters was built in a short span of time with infrastructure and facilities better than top corporate offices. “Officers will spend more time here than at their homes as the headquarters is built in a sophisticated manner. Exactly a year ago, the foundation stone was laid and raising such a building in just one year is appreciable. The police housing corporation is also doing well,” he said.

Meanwhile, the hills and forest area surrounding the headquarters on three sides caught the attention of Mr. Naidu. “There are beautiful hills, trees and garden area surrounding the office. Officers can have open gymnasiums under the trees and work out daily before leaving for homes. I feel like taking over this office for my CMO, but of course will not do so,” he said in a lighter vein. The Chief Minister showered praise on the police personnel who performed various feats on motorcycles during Independence Day celebrations in Tirupati.

About the successful rescue of the toddler from the borewell, Mr. Naidu said that it was a coordinated effort of the government, police, NDRF and all others who reacted swiftly and worked in a well-thought-of manner. Citing this success as an example, he asked police personnel not to just go by the blue book and think out-of-the-box to succeed.

Home Minister N. Chinarajappa, Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, DGP N. Sambasiva Rao and others were present.
