Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu has urged Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to direct the authorities concerned to arrest Rajya Sabha member K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, whose name allegedly figured in the United States in the Titanium mining irregularities.
Mr. Naidu wondered why Dr. Rao had not been arrested even after the U.S. security agencies issued a red corner notice through the Interpol. “The Governor should direct the authorities concerned to arrest Dr. Rao without any delay,” Mr. Naidu said. The Governor should not give in to pressure mounted by Congress leaders and adopt a negligent attitude on the issue.
He was addressing impressive gatherings in Mahabubnagar district where he participated in a series of roadshows and public meetings on Saturday. Addressing a public meeting at Aija, he said the time had come for people to cast their vote against the Congress, whose 10-year rule had left a trail of irregularities in different sectors. The decade-long Congress ‘misrule’ has resulted in severe hardships to people on account of price rise and other aspects.
“I am prepared for an open debate on the development that took place during the TDP rule and failures during the Congress regime,” he said. He recalled how the TDP government took steps to complete irrigation projects like modernisation of the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme to cater to the drinking water and irrigation needs of the backward Mahabubnagar district.
The Congress and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi had no plans for integrated development of water resources and as a result, works initiated on several major projects are still incomplete almost a decade after they were launched. The incomplete projects and the consequent shortages faced on the irrigation front forced the people, workers in particular, to take to large-scale migration in search of employment.
“The Congress and the TRS will not work for the development of backward regions while the TDP has a proven track record in this regard. I am committed to adopting Mahabubnagar district and ensuring water to tail end areas if the TDP is voted back to power,” he said.
Mr. Naidu was critical of Congress’ Mahabubnagar Lok Sabha candidate S. Jaipal Reddy whom he described as “migratory bird”, as he is known for shifting his constituencies at the end of every election. The senior Congress leader is sure to face a drubbing in the forthcoming election as the people are firmly decided against the ruling party.
TRS president K. Chandrashekhar Rao, on the other hand, is known for not keeping his promises.
“He promised to stay put in Karimnagar and then shifted to Mahabubnagar in the next elections. He has moved to Medak this time around,” he said.
The TDP was committed to fulfilling its promises such as waiver of loans obtained by farmers and DWCRA women besides making agriculture and allied sectors profitable.
Exhorting people to vote for the TDP-BJP combine, he said the focus of the new government would be on employment generation to prevent migration from backward areas as well as provide opportunities to aspiring youth.
