Naidu promises to get gas supply for power plants

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has assured a delegation of Association of Power Producers, including Anil Ambani of Reliance ADAG, to get gas supply to idle gas-based plants in the State.

They also wanted him to coordinate a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss burning issues of the power industry.

Besides Mr. Ambani, the delegation including association’s president Anil Khurana, G.V. Sanjay Reddy of GVK group, LANCO chairman L. Madhusudhan Rao and G.B.S. Raju of GMR group called on the Chief Minister at Lake View Guest House here on Monday.

During the discussion, the power producers raised the issue of urgent need of gas supply to gas-based plants with a capacity of 2,233 MW which were idle and other plants with a capacity of 4061 MW for lack of allotment. In all, the total capacity of gas-based plants in Andhra Pradesh is 7,579 MW and power generation was underway only in 1,285 MW plants.

The association members urged Mr. Naidu to promote LNG terminals at Gangavaram and Kakinada ports, reduce VAT on gas by two per cent and take up with Union government and Gujarat for getting additional gas from new ONGC/Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation units to power projects in AP.
