The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will step up stir by roping in the Left and other like-minded parties to fight against the pro-corporate neo-liberal economic policies of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.
The CPI(M) will expose the Telugu Desam Party, which had allegedly bartered away the State’s interests to the BJP, according to CPI(M) central secretariat member V. Srinivasa Rao.
“I wonder why Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is continuing the TDP’s support to the NDA government even after the State has been meted out a raw deal in the Union and Railway budgets and on devolution of funds by the Finance Commission,” he told a press conference here on Thursday.
“The party will fight for Special Category State status for Andhra Pradesh,” he said adding that it was unfortunate that the State had not been provided much-expected railway lines, new trains and a new railway zone, which involved no additional expenses.
‘Anti-farmer’
He was also perplexed over the TDP’s support to “anti-farmer” Land Acquisition Amendment Bill that was stoutly opposed even by other NDA partners like the Shiv Sena and the Akali Dal. The CPI(M) would not allow the bills to replace ordinances on land acquisition, FDI in Insurance sector and labour laws to be passed in the Rajya Sabha.
He found fault with Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for reducing corporate tax, but hiking service tax hurting different sections of people providing a variety of services.
Though the devolution of funds from the Centre to the states had been increased to 42 per cent, the benefit accruing to the states had been nullified with the transfer of 30 welfare schemes to the states for implementation.
Party district secretary P. Anjaneyulu demanded special budgetary allocation by the State government to the backward Prakasam district.
