Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu has criticised Congress president Sonia Gandhi for her adamant attitude on bifurcation of the State which resulted in the unprecedented incidents in the Parliament.
The Congress was going ahead with the bifurcation of the State unmindful of the protests staged in the Well of the House by the Ministers and its own MPs. “The Congress should take the responsibility for the first of its kind incident that lowered the prestige of the Parliament,” he said. Mr. Naidu was speaking to reporters in New Delhi after calling on party MP K. Narayana who was admitted to hospital. Mr. Narayana was rushed to hospital after reportedly developing health complications amid the chaos that prevailed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
The TDP president faulted the Congress leadership for “mishandling” the bifurcation issue and this led to the Thursday’s unprecedented incidents in the Lok Sabha. In its haste to bifurcate the State for electoral gains, the Congress was violating the Constitutional norms and traditions. Though senior leaders L.K. Advani and Sushma Swaraj expressed concern over the sorry state of affairs, Ms. Sonia Gandhi and senior Congress leaders were yet to make their stand clear on the issue. The TDP said that the issue could be resolved amicably if only the stakeholders from the two sides were engaged in negotiations for seeking better deal for their respective regions through negotiations.
