An Intermediate first year girl was found dead at her boyfriend’s house under mysterious circumstances in Chittoor town on Saturday.

The two had reportedly entered into a suicide pact as their marriage proposal was rejected by their parents and the boy allegedly backtracked at the last minute.

The 16-year-old girl was allegedly in a relationship with an auto driver for the last one year. A week ago, she stopped going to college and started working in a shop. In this backdrop, the youth informed the girl’s parents on Saturday morning that their daughter had attempted suicide by hanging at his house. Later, he rushed the girl to the District Headquarters Hospital in the auto but she was declared brought dead.

The girl’s parents, father a lorry driver and mother a domestic help, alleged that the youth recently demanded a dowry of Rs. 5 lakh to marry the girl.

However, the youth told the police that they (he and the girl) had decided to end their lives as parents on both sides rejected their relationship.

He claimed that both had tied the noose and prepared to hang themselves simultaneously in his house while his parents were away in the morning, but he had broken the pact at the last minute out of fear while the girl had gone ahead and executed it.

The Chittoor Two town police visited the youth’s house and registered a case.

“We have noted the versions of the girl’s parents and the youth and started investigation. We have taken the injured youth into custody and sent the girl’s body for post-mortem,” Two Town circle inspector Venkatappa said.
