Mystery shrouded the death of a 60-year-old farmer, Perumal, at a deep forest location near Vengamvaripalle village of Baireddipalle mandal, close to tri-State Kuppam Junction, on Wednesday morning. He went missing 10 days ago.

According to the Forest Range Officer (Palamaner), G. Bala Veeraiah, an unidentified body was found in the Koundinya Elephant Sanctuary, and what was left of the body was a skeleton. The villagers identified the body based on some a piece of torn cloth nearby. “Going by the condition of the remains, the death could have occurred 10 days ago. We suspect that Perumal might have died due to sunstroke while he strayed into the jungle,” he said. He rejected the version that he was trampled to death by wild elephants as a rumour. However, he confirmed that there was movement of wild elephants close to the village abutting the sanctuary. The Baireddipalle police visited the spot and sent the remains to the area hospital for autopsy.
