The mystery behind the disappearance of a 35-year-old woman in Chimakurthy in October 2013 was resolved with the arrest of her friend and the latter's accomplice by the Prakasam District police on Thursday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police G. Srinivasa Rao told reporters here that they were clueless after registering a missing case following the sudden disappearance of the woman M.Suashini, wife of an ex-serviceman, after giving lunch box to their son studying in a public school in Chimakurthy.
The probe at last paid dividends with the woman's friend M. Padmavathi (36) and her accomplice, K.Madhusudan Rao (31), a motor mechanic confessing to killing her, the DSP said. The duo confessed to have choked her to death with a skipping rope, suspecting extra-marital relationship with Padmavathi's husband.
They took the body concealed in a bag in a car to Nalgonda District and threw it in the Nagarjunasagar irrigation canal. Both were arrested based on an extra-judicial confession made by them before a revenue officer, the DSP said.
The gold chain mortgaged with a pawn broking firm by the mechanic a day after the murder and other jewels removed from the body also helped them achieve a breakthrough in the case, the DSP said, adding Subashini's body remained untraced.
