The new Motor Vehicle Act that is pending approval need to be implemented. Many police officers are of the opinion that the present Motor Vehicle Act is weak and needs to be strengthened.
As of now, the fine is only ₹100 and this does not act as a deterrent. But the new Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill, has laid down some strict norms and fines and could serve as a deterrent for the law breakers and it needs to be approved and implemented at the earliest, said ADCP (Traffic) K. Mahendra Patrudu.
As per the MV Amendment Bill, riders caught without a helmet will be charged ₹1000 as fine amount and cancellation of driving licence for three months.
The same amount will be charged for driving without seatbelt.
