A fugitive, who killed a man for cooking his pet cat and eating it about five months ago, was nabbed by Nandikotkur police in Kurnool district on Tuesday night.

Chinna Mahanandi of Lakshmapuram village in Padigyala mandal reared a pet cat. As it was preying on their hens, his wife Padmavathi gave it away to Budagajangala Yellappa in January this year. Chinna Mahanandi, who returned home that evening enquired about his cat and went to Yellappa’s house.

When Yellappa replied that they cooked and ate it, Mahanandi became furious and broke the leg of a goat. Even as Yellappa’s son Maddileti tried to pacify him, Mahanandi pushed Yellappa and kicked him repeatedly on his chest when he fell down, causing his death, the police said. On a complaint by Maddileti, police registered a case.

Chinna Mahandi, who fled in January, was arrested at Lakshmapuram crossroads by Nandikotkur circle inspector Srinath Reddy and sub-inspectors Sivanjal and Narasimhulu.
