Notwithstanding TRS supremo K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s tough posturing on a possible alliance with the Congress, rebel Congress MP G. Vivekanand, who now sails with the TRS, is pitching hard for a tie-up with the Congress.
“Individually, I am striving hard to see that the two parties enter into an electoral alliance. It will be good for both the parties in Telangana. If we have a good government for the first five years, it will ensure all-round development of the new State,” he observed. Dr. Vivekanand said he is more concerned about the Congress-TRS alliance in general elections than ever before.
Amid speculation that he is planning to rejoin the Congress soon, the MP denied any such move. Speaking to The Hindu from Delhi on Saturday, he said he had met top Congress leaders in the last few days. “The effort is to see that the two sides join hands.” Despite both the Congress and TRS talking in two different tones, the MP felt that the doors for an alliance are not closed.
Denying that his meetings were to facilitate a smooth re-entry into the Congress for him, the MP said: “As of now, my top priority is to convince the two sides for an alliance.” Probed further, Dr. Vivekanand said that he has no differences with the TRS president.
Sources said senior Congress leaders were in touch with Mr. Vivekanand, pressuring him to return to the parent party.
The Congress is in a piquant situation in Peddapalli where it is finding it hard to replace Dr. Vivek. Sources said the party is keen that the MP rejoin the party and contest the elections from the constituency.
