The Girijana Samkshema Parishath (GSP) organised a rally in the temple town of Bhadrachalam on Wednesday demanding continuation of Bhadrachalam as an integral part of Telangana after the proposed bifurcation of the State.

Apart from Adivasis, owing allegiance to the GSP, several student activists and others took part in the rally. The rally commenced at the government junior college grounds and culminated in a dharna at the Sub-Collector’s office.

Addressing the dharna, the GSP leaders demanded that the Centre retain Bhadrachalam in Telangana. They asserted that continuation of Bhadrachalam in Telangana was imperative to safeguard the interests of Adivasis of the vast division, which shares close bond with the rest of Telangana.

They strongly opposed the demand from some quarters for merger of Bhadrachalam division with East Godavari district. GSP convener Sonde Veeraiah, vice-president Veerabhadram, TNGOs leaders and others spoke.
