The South-West monsoon which advanced into the Bay of Bengal near the Andaman Islands, is likely to arrive in the State in the first week of June, maintaining its normal timing.
G. Sudhakar Rao, director, State Meteorological Office here, said favourable weather conditions were prevailing in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea to push the two arms of the monsoon onto the land. As a result, one arm of the monsoon advancing from the Bay of Bengal might touch the Kerala coast on June 1 before reaching Rayalaseema region four or five days later.
Quoting the forecast issued by India Meteorological Department, he said the rainfall in the State during this monsoon would be normal.
Meanwhile, day temperatures soared at many places in Andhra Pradesh as a result of severe heat wave conditions prevailing in Guntur, Krishna, East Godavari, West Godavari, Prakasam, Khammam, Warangal, Nalgonda, Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts.
Several places in the State recorded 47 degrees Celsius including Rentachintala, Bapatla and Adilabad.
