Heavy rain lashed some places in Coastal Andhra on Tuesday without, however, leading to any slight revival of the monsoon in the State.
This came as a disappointment to the government and people who hoped that these rains would precipitate and make the monsoon active.
Isolated
G. Sudhakar Rao, director, State Met Office, attributed these rains to isolated thunderstorm activity caused by upper air cyclonic circulation hovering over the Bay of Bengal, with its influence extending into North Coastal Andhra region.
Kalingapatnam and Palasa in Srikakulam district recorded a heavy rainfall of 8 cm and 5 cm respectively. Numerous other places in this and in the districts of Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam received rainfall ranging up to 3 cm each.
Moderate in Telangana
The rainfall was merely moderate in Telangana whereas the day passed in Rayalaseema without any significant rainfall at any place in the region.
The isolated thunderstorm activity will continue on Wednesday. The situation would be like this during the next five to six days, Mr Sudhakar Rao said.
The India Meteorological Department, in its daily forecast, said moderate to heavy rains were likely in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhpatnam, East Godavari and West Godavari districts.
