Modi govt. will push corporate agenda: CPI

May 23, 2014 12:20 am | Updated 12:20 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Communist Party of India (CPI) has apprehended that the Modi-led government at the Centre would try to push the agenda dictated by the corporates after taking over the reins.

CPI general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy alleged that Mr. Modi managed to come to power with the help of the campaign taken up by the big businesses even as the strength of opposition parties in Parliament came down significantly. He expressed concern that there was every possibility of the new government speeding up the reform process and taking forward the neoliberal policies of the previous UPA government.

Mr. Sudhakar Reddy was addressing the inaugural session of the CPI State Council which got off here on Thursday. He said vexed with rampant corruption during the decade-long Congress regime, people voted for the BJP and the wave against the ruling party was so strong that the Congress could not even manage to get the Opposition party status in the Lok Sabha.

Though the Left parties made efforts to forge a non-Congress and non-BJP secular alternative before the elections, they did not materialise. Scrapping of Article 370, Common Civil Code and construction of Ram mandir continued to be on the top of the BJP’s agenda and the party would leave no efforts to implement these controversial issues.

The CPI would, however, continue its struggle against any moves that could harm the secular fabric of the country. It was determined to fight against the “anti-people” policies of the government.
