CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna on Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah owed an apology to the nation in general, and people of Karnataka in particular, for making a “mockery of democracy” by encouraging “unethical and immoral practices.”
Addressing the media here, Mr. Ramakrishna hailed the role of the Supreme Court in restoring faith in democracy by granting only two days, as against 15 days given by the Governor, to the BJP to prove its majority in the House.
“It is shameful on the part of the BJP to give a free hand to leaders such as Gali Janardhan Reddy and Sriramulu, to win over legislators of rival parties. There is enough proof to nail them,” he said.
Opposition unity
He said the defeat of the BJP in Karnataka would bolster the confidence of the opposition parties to come onto one platform, and take on the NDA in the ensuing 2019 elections.
He said the Telugu-speaking voters of Karnataka had given the BJP a befitting reply by not voting in the election, thus plotting its downfall. “The BJP has lost in Karnataka because of incurring the wrath of the Telugu voters, and this has been proved in the numbers,” he said.
JSP yatra
On Jana Sena Party (JSP) president Pawan Kalyan’s bus yatra in north Andhra to assess the mood of the people, Mr. Ramakrishna said the CPI would offer Mr. Pawan all support in his endeavour.
Railway zone
He said the CPI would launch the ‘Vizag Railway Zone Sadhana Yatra’ on May 25. It would cover the three districts of north Andhra. The aim of the yatra was to enlighten the people on the importance of railway zone with Visakhapatnam as headquarters, and expose the indifferent attitude of the Centre towards the issue.
SCS issue
Mr. Ramakrishna said, as per the call given by the Pratyeka Hoda Vibhajana Hameela Sadhana Samithi, the opposition parties would organise ‘deeksha’ across the State from May 22.
On the AgriGold issue, the CPI would undertake a padayatra on May 30 and 31 from Guntur, he added.
