Joint Action Committee of Teachers performed mock last rites for elected representatives to protest bifurcation of the State, here on Monday. The teachers, who took out a rally, protested at the Collectorate by displaying the photographs of elected representatives from the district and Ministers.

The JAC leaders said the State had plunged into an unprecedented crisis because of the dubious stand of politicians who failed to lodge a protest with their respective parties. After the division, the leaders were trying to hoodwink people with their theatrics. Even now, the elected representatives could shake the government by resigning from their posts, but they refused to do so.

Meanwhile, autorickshaw drivers took part in the strike for 24 hours. The transport operators took out a rally in the city and set on fire tyres at several places and danced protesting against bifurcation. The strike had an impact on the civic life as people went without local transportation. School going children and parents had difficult time to reach the schools.

Meanwhile, TDP supporters lodged a protest by demonstrating with vegetable garlands. Former Minister K.E. Prabhakar took part in the protest. The Ministerial employees of the Police Department took out a rally carrying balloons in the city to protest against bifurcation. They said the protest would continue along with other NGOs.
