Former Madanapalle municipal chairman B. Naresh Kumar Reddy, who was declared as MLC of the Chittoor local bodies constituency by the High Court, arrived to a rousing reception from Hyderabad at the Renigunta airport here on Thursday.

It may be recalled that Mr. Naresh contested for the Legislative Council seat from Chittoor district in 2011, along with TDP candidate Balaji Naidu and YSRC-supported independent candidate Desai Thippa Reddy. The then election officer and Joint Collector Pradyumna declared Dr. Thippa Reddy elected, as he secured 407 votes against Mr. Naresh’s 406 votes. As the victory margin was just one vote, Mr. Naresh moved the High Court. Even as the proceedings of the case were on, Dr. Thippa Reddy resigned as MLC to contest as the YSRC candidate for Madanapalle Assembly constituency in the 2014 general elections, which he eventually won.

The High Court pronounced its verdict last week upholding Mr. Naresh Kumar Reddy’s claim and he will continue as MLC for the remaining 12-month period.
