MLAs, Ministers have their pockets full

Karnataka will now end up paying almost double the price it pays for elected representatives as the Legislative Assembly passed the Karnataka Ministers Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Bill, 2015 and the Karnataka Legislature Salaries, Pensions, and Allowances (Amendment) Bill, 2015.

Salary and perks

While salaries and allowances of MLAs and MLCs will nearly double, that of the Chief Minister, Ministers, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Chairman of the Legislative Council, and legislators will also register a meteoric rise.

The monthly salary of the Chief Minister, Speaker, and Council Chairman has been increased from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 50,000 and Cabinet Ministers from Rs. 25,000 Rs. 40,000.

A total of 300 legislators would get a hike of close to Rs. 50,000 in salary and perks

Pension of former MLAs and MLCs has been increased from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 40,000.

Persons who have served more than five years would be paid additional pension at the rate of Rs. 1,000 per month for every subsequent year completed.
