A missing Army jawan’s daughter and wife have made a fervent appeal to State Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar seeking the latter’s intervention to trace her father.
Kurasam Hima Bindu, a degree second year student, represented the matter to the Speaker during a meeting convened by him at the tribal habitation to review the implementation of tribal welfare programmes on Tuesday.
Sad plight
The girl narrated the plight of her poor family consisting of her mother, a sister and brother ever since her father had gone missing more than eight years ago.
She told the Speaker that her father, Kurusam Veeraiah, posted in Arunachal Pradesh, had left home on October 26, 2004, after availing annual leave, when she was about 12 years old. “He told my mother Padma that he was heading to Kumaon to rejoin duty. But his whereabouts have remained unknown since then,” she said.
Padma recounted the ordeal faced by them after the mysterious disappearance of their breadwinner. “We have sent several letters and telegrams to the officials but there was no response,” she said adding that they received a message from the authorities concerned that a missing case was registered at the local police station where Veeraiah worked. Moved by the plight of the family, the Speaker promised to take up the matter with the departments concerned.
Help promised
Mr. Manohar asked the ITDA officials to extend help to the tribal girl to enable her pursue higher studies and find suitable employment.
