Minor girl thwarts marriage attempt

A 15-year-old school topper picked up courage to seek the help of Childline India Foundation to thwart her marriage with a 24-year-old farmer at Purimetla village, near Mundlamuru in Prakasam district on Thursday.

The orphaned school girl, who was studying in a government school at Machavaram, near N.G.Padu, called the child helpline 1098 and sought the NGO’s help to end the marriage fixed by her uncle on Thursday night. The girl, who had appeared for the recent SSC exam was keen to continue her studies, social activist B.V. Sagar said.

She was rescued and put in a rescue home on the orders of the District Child Welfare Committee.
