With the public examinations fast approaching, the School Education Department has come out with a new initiative aimed at serving ‘mini snacks’ to the SCC students during the special classes being held in the Government and Zilla Parishad high schools in the district.
The department has already launched a series of initiatives like distributing special study material titled ‘Vijayapatham’, conducting special classes, and sending letters to parents, students and teachers to ensure better results in SSC public examinations slated to be held in March. The initiatives gained significance in the backdrop of the poor performance of the district in the SSC examinations in the previous academic year. The district was relegated to the 19th position in the State in 2012-13 from 17th position in 2011-12, according to sources.
Sources said the officials concerned of the School Education Department have decided to serve “mini-snacks” during the special classes in all the Government and ZP High Schools from Monday.
The district administration has reportedly earmarked some funds for this purpose.
"The idea behind the new initiative is to boost the energy levels of the SSC students attending special classes in the evening after schools hours," said K Ravindranath Reddy, District Educational Officer, Khammam.
Mini snacks like biscuits, upma, boiled groundnuts and green peas besides fruits will be served to SSC students from Monday, he said adding that Collector I Srinivas Sri Naresh has sanctioned Rs 9 lakh from the ZP Education Fund to implement the programme.
“We will also take the help of parents, donors and other stakeholders to make the programme a success,” he said.
“Similar initiatives have already been launched in a few schools like the one in Rajendranagar in Khammam town with the support of donors. Now we have drawn up an action plan to implement it in all the Government and ZP High Schools for the benefit of the SSC students,” he said.
The district administration was making all possible efforts to achieve better results in the forthcoming SSC exams, Mr Reddy said.
