MIM town president held on charge of election code violation

Adilabad town president of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) Farooq Ahmed on Thursday remanded to judicial custody in an offence of violation of the Model Code of Conduct in the ongoing municipal election. He was booked by Two-Town police on a complaint under section 343 (e) of the AP Municipalities Act, 1965.

According to Inspector T. Narayana, Mr. Farooq had circulated stickers of his party in his municipal ward in violation of given rules. The sticker did not carry the full address of the printer and publisher, as is required under given rules.

The election authorities have so far registered 14 cases of violation of the code in the district. They have seized cash worth Rs.1.25 crore and silver coins weighing 3 kg.
