Capping a day of high drama, Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi was arrested on Tuesday and whisked away by the police to Nirmal in Adilabad, 220 km from here, after being subjected to medical tests at a government hospital here.
Mr. Owaisi is facing charges for an alleged hate speech.
The MIM MLA, who was directed by the police to present himself for questioning, had cited medical reasons while requesting the police to give him four days to appear before them. But it was turned down.
On Tuesday, the police went to his house in Banjara Hills here and took him to the Gandhi Hospital, where a team of five doctors examined him thoroughly and gave a clean bill of health.
The arrest of Mr. Owaisi triggered tension in several parts of the city, notably the old Hyderabad areas, where the police deployed forces in good numbers and stepped up patrolling.
Restive MIM workers, who gathered at the hospital, jostled with the police and hurled stones at vehicles, forcing the police to resort to lathi-charge.
The decision to arrest the MLA came after Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy held consultations with Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan, after being briefed by DGP V. Dinesh Reddy.
Mr. Owaisi’s lawyer, Mohd. Shafiduddin objected to the manner in which the arrest was made. He claimed that Mr. Owaisi’s request to allow him to go home and have lunch was turned down.
“The MLA was whisked away without informing us where he was being taken to,” he said. Mr. Owaisi was suffering from ‘acute pain’ due to hernia, and had undergone three surgeries, he added.
Mr. Akbaruddin survived an assassination attempt in May 2011.

is this the first hate speech by a politician? Has it got anything to do by his party
withdrawing support to congress? Has it got to do with the telangana andhra split
which is going to take place in months? Is this congress way of negotiating with all
parties concerned?
He needs to be disqualified as an MLA. We have to start by giving him an exemplary punishment. Alernatively, just keep him in the cell for the rest of his term to set an example. It will send a strong signal to people with such disjointed thoughts.
Politicians shouldn't be allowed to make hate speeches based on
religion, Region, Gender or Caste. Unless this prevalent trend in
politics is dealt with seriousness, it creates enmity among people
leading to unrest in society. Though it's been a quite long time since
he made the speech, it's better late than never to take the right
action. This kind of politicians should be tried swiftly in court of
law, strong signal needs to be sent to politicians, institutional
leaders who are indulging in cheap tricks for political survival
The police need to be complimented for not being taken in by the bogus claims of Owaisi and his physician who gave a blatantly false certificate about his health. The Medical Council should seriously consider cancelling the medical Licence of Owaisi's physician for denigrating the profession and colluding with a malingerer who was facing arrest.Such doctors are blots on
their noble profession and should be ashamed of theselves. They would not hesitate to do anything for money.
The Govt should make an example out of Akbaruddin Owaisi and give him a prison
sentence. Or will it be the case that laws only apply to common man ?
the workers are also Ghundas. the party is not the party of muslims. the definition and attributes of muslim are something else. one of the attributes of Muslims is his tongue should not hurt any one, no matter the person belongs to any group. From their Grand father to them, their harsh satire, most of the time exaggerated, had been like this in all three generations. both brothers are fooling the illiitrates and hoarding tonnes of money. The govt. should investigate about their wealth, their ancestor was only urdu speaking Lawyer. I think Government does not want to get rid off these Gundas. If some riot happens who will die Comman poor man, if the curfew is imposed, who suffers, Common poor man. The Govt. officials and these gundas enjoy that period.
This local gunda should be tried, fined heavily and imprisoned for having the temerity to be-little another religion. What does it say about his beliefs and philosophy?
How can akbaruddin allowed by police to fly london, when he has 36 cases on his name in PSs. How he got police clearance, and how he got visa. If a common man has a petty case on him, then he do not get PCC nor visa.
Hopeless laws!!!
MIM is a dangerous political party. Both brothers do not understand their behaviour, how are they spreading venom among illitrate Muslims. It has been 65 years some Muslim ran away to Pakistan. Remaining Muslims need to make India as their peacefull abode these brothers for their benifit have become mad animals.
They do not want any wellbeing of Mulims, but to hoard thousand kadodes of rupees for themseves. What was financial status of their Grand father. He used to get Rs. 500 worth legal work as the lawyer who spoke only Urdu in the period 0f 60-70s. His father was unable to pass Multi purpose grade from City College(Hyderabad). Muslims of hyderabad do not have courage to ask them, from where they got the wealth what they have now. These are gundas should be locked up and thrown the key away.
Instigating violence by taking advantage of diversity in society has
become a common practice among Indian politicians.
I'm a hindu, running a small s/w company and my office space owner is a muslim. Have to break office rental agreement without prior notice for monetary issues. I told him my story honestly and requested if he can consider our situation as we are in crisis. He listened to me carefully and told me that he will not deduct 2 months rent(which should be done as per norms), that will be approx Rs60k.
I consider this as huge support and indeed it is!
I'm from north India, struggling in bangalore, and owner is from local resident!!
Akbaruddin Owaisi should not be continued in political life any more. I felt really bad about the comments. Arrest or protest doesn't make any solution..Dear brothers and sisters of Hinduism and Islamism lets not make our country bad supporting these kind of leaders..
Let the arrest of Akbaruddin not be the end, but should be the
beginning. In India, even some Chief Ministers, central/state
Ministers are known for their vituperative and hate speeches.
Religion should be restricted within the four walls of houses and
places of worship. Unfortunately in our country, religion and caste
form the basis for political existence of certain political parties
which seek votes by dividing the community stoking communal extremism,
whether it is Muslim or Hindu or even more minutely caste based
polarisation of the people. Laws should be made strict to restrain
such evil designed political setups. Not only laws, realisation should
come to the people to shun all religion or caste based political
parties.
What we are seeing is that we now have rabble rousers in megacities catering to lumpen elements and holding society as hostage. These fringe elements have become the power brokers with always a threat to create law and order problem if they touch the leaders. I do not see any difference between Shiv Sena and MIM. MIM has the legacy of virulent communal hatred of Pre partition Razakars. MIM and Shiv Sena have made a joke of civil society and governance
Not only him but people supporting him should be behind bar. Also examplery punishment should be given to like minded people who spread hate for any reason including Raj Thakrey and Pramod Muthalik...
Mr.Akbaruddin Owaisi has committed an incorrigible blunder by trying to
spread animosity between two religions. And our judiciary is admiringly
going forward to settle the scores. But what makes me feel uneasy is the
supporters of Mr. Akbaruddin, who gathered in front of the hospital and
are protesting against his arrest. Don't they have any conscience?
Should they follow their leader blindly without minding his motifs and
personality? Aren't they Indians? If he is not punished unanimously,
then I'm afraid we are going to face similar instances in near future.
I hope that the judiciary system takes a harsh approach and quicker decision, irrespective of his political connections. Its a good lesson for politicians like these who make a living by propagating communal hatred.
all the parties which are fighting in the name of religion for just
there political ambitions,if owaisi had so much pain for his community
why did he looted the waqf properties and proved him to be a enemy of
muslim, same is the case of bjp just brahmans are ruling the party where
as poor lower caste people are suffering why bjp is silent for the rape
cases of lower caste girls in villages, now the time has come for muslim
and other lower caste hindus to stand unitedly against this evil and
corrupt leaders
I totally and fully agree with mr. mohd. asifuddin's opinion and views.
the entire muslim community education and other basic amenities of life,
which no politician including MIM and congress does not provide. they
are always exploiting muslim community during elections. unfortunately
the illterate muslim community does not understand and they get provoked
by speeches like this. instead they should focus on education and
economic development and kick MIM out of India. mera bharat mahan
Until this story, I don't know who this guy is and even such a party existed in AP. Now I got to know all this, I think that's all he wants. He wants to be heard and talked about, for which he is doing all these insane, dangerous speeches. Poor knowledge, bad choice.
I am just wondering. How is it that all politicians get a chest pain,
when arrested? Probably we need to check the connection between the two?
If he is so good for Muslim brothers, why he was shot by other Islam person. He is not only hated by Hindus but also Muslims. All Islam followers have to understand that he is making use of poor Islam people as his bullet proof.
He was gone out of control, his arrest is reasonable and was necessary. What he told in his speech is against the teachings of Islam, he has made a severe damage to the Muslim community by this speech. However, Muslims in general do not agree and support him for such provocative and non-sense ideas. By this aggressive and provocative, illegal speech he has committed a crime, he should be punished according to law. His brother and party should apologize for supporting him. It is a crime to support such people. Lot of wealth and power has actually made him too much arrogant and proud. Now he must get a lesson and should not attack any one and should not speak rubbish in future.
he asked for it and got it. he was arrested because of the relentless battles of the social activists like shabnam azmi, asgar ali engineer and swami agnivesh. MIM, the party to which he belongs to create communal disharmony in hyderabad with a malafide intention to dillute the strong telangana movement. now it is time for the rationalists and lovers of democracy to raise their voice and denounce the communal forces
Its quite depressing to see not only old but young politicians making
such ludicrous comment for little political mileage or popularity. All
who entice people for communal violence or hurt religious feeling should
be punished hard irrespective of their caste, creed, sex and religion.
*Anybody* not just Asaduddin who resort to these should be punished
quickly before they break the country's unity in diversity.
People like Owaisi do not care about muslims or anybody..they just care about the votes and he is playing dirty politics on communal lines which could prove very dangerous for a country like india.
So, we all indians(Hindu, muslims,Sikhs,Christans and everyone else) should make a consious choice before making goons like owaisi a leader
please check his mental health also along with his physical health.
It appears Mr. Owaisi lost all the energy after the speech in Nirmal. Too weak to appear before the law...funny.
Agree with Mohammed Asifuddin ...
This local Gunda who has chosen this dirty way to get some space in politics… Government should act promptly & prove ...arrest should not be a eyewash/ illusion ..
His elder brother and Bar-At-Law MP gets very loud in accusing all parties in India being communal, but twists the word when it comes to his brother. Seems like both brothers are putting into practice the real manifesto of this Razakkar party.
Owaisi's comments are dangerous and can lead to violent Hindu-Muslim
riots. Currently, Hyderabad is facing issues like the Bhagyalaxmi
Temple row, which can escalate into a riot. Such irresponsible comments
should be shunned and Owaisi should be banned from participating in
public life as representatives with venomous attitude can do no good of
the nation/state.
If the government is really committed to the law of the land then the govt must arrest this hatemonger immediately. It was a terrible speech by him and has croosed all limits.
How come all the politicians, celebrities, rich and powerful criminals when apprehended by
the police even if it is for questioning they fall sick and have to be hospitalised in 5 star
wards? There must be an act (add to the zillion we have already) - Prevention of admission
to hospitals act.....
Many say that please neglect him as he is nobody ,that's true and we
should avoid such people but his speech was too much and crossed every
boundary of reasoning. The vulgarity exceed all limits and particularly
against our sacred religion. Its shameful and he needs a proper lesson.
I agree 100% with the well-written comments of Mohammed Asifuddin. Such
hate speeches by this particular politician from Hyderabad or by
another one from Mumbai do no good and serve no purpose except fanning
hatred among different communities.
I got interested because of its mention for a week in literally every newspaper I read online. I heard 28 minutes of his speech on the Youtube. One+ hour is too long to bear. I found him loud, archaic, provocative and irresponsible. He probably has a score to settle, or he is trying for political mileage. He may get out of the courts on technicalities, but he has lost the Indian public forever. He had valid points to make and that he could have made with an all inclusive conciliatary tone or reasonableness. He has a constituency to address to, but with this speech he has done far more harm to the interests of this constituency as well as to the Muslim minority. It will take a long time to remove the bitterness.
I wonder why does every politician falls sick only after a judicial
action. Isn't high time to fix this flaw?
all drama ... i know not how can we not prosecute a person who openly
threatened a whole religion, threatened to kill the public and supported
pakistan ....... India a very weird country ..
It is very common that all the politicians once caught after committing
a crime (i.e hate speech, rape, killing/murder, taking bribe/kick backs,
and etc) gets immediately admitted in govt hospital. In this case I
would certainly advice he gets admitted in Mental Hospital.
It is very common in our country that by the time he gets out of the
hospital there will be some other boiling issue, media will shift their
focus, police & court will let him free, people will forget this case
and he will get re elected.
So, now he is honored with 5 medals (out of many) which a local politician in India always dream of and wants to achieve with any sort of stunt - be it the cheapest and disgusting: 1. Out-Of-India tour (why not ban such tours for these locals, who have the 'rights to hate-speech', let there be any reason) 2. Free Media Coverage 3. Playing with law in the name of health (always happen) 4. Escorted by Police (its considered to be Power Show-off by many) 5. Getting few additional supporters due to the first 4 medals !!
