January 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:54 am IST - GUNTUR:

A mega police commissionerate with a jurisdiction extending to areas in Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) is expected to take shape in the next few months. The new commissionerate is likely to be named after the capital city.

The metropolis police commissionerate coming up at Thullur would effectively mean that the existing commissionerate in Vijayawada, Guntur Urban and Guntur Rural Police Districts would be merged in the new commissionerate, top police sources told The Hindu on Tuesday.

The proposals over the new commissionerate were discussed during a meeting held by DGP J.V. Ramudu with the Inspector General of Police, South Coastal Range, P.V Sunil Kumar and the two SPs, Rajesh Kumar and PHD Satyanarayana in Vijaywada.

The other proposals included, extending the limits of Vijayawada Police Commissionerate, extending Guntur Urban Police District limits to areas under the CRDA.
