Zareena (46) tried to rescue her daughter from the attack
Mohammed Zareena (46), who received severe burnt injuries, while trying to save her daughter from an acid attack by her neighbour on March 29 in Machilipatnam, died on Tuesday while undergoing medical treatment at the Government Hospital, Vijayawada.
Her daughter is still under treatment for acid attack injuries in the hospital.
“Ms. Zareena died in the hospital at around 8.45 a.m. on Tuesday," Machilipatnam Deputy Superintendent of Police K. V. Srinivasa Rao told The Hindu. Inakuduru police have gone to the government hospital, Vijayawada to send the deceased body for post mortem and collect the medical report from the doctors who treated her.
Inakuduru Police told The Hindu that they registered a murder case against the accused Subhani as one of the victims was dead.
On March 29 midnight, Subhani threw acid on Ms. Zareena and her daughter at their residence at Godugupeta street in Machilipatnam town in Krishna District. Ms. Zareena, along with her daughter, received burnt injuries when she attempted to rescue her daughter in the attack that took place at the victim's residence.
The accused had resorted to the extreme step after the victim's parents rejected his proposal to marry their 25-year-old daughter. Ms. Zareena is survived with her husband, two daughters and a son.
