Masthan Babu’s body arrives

Last rites to be performed at 9.30 am today

After a prolonged wait, the mortal remains of mountaineer Malli Masthan Babu arrived on Friday evening.

Along the route, people gathered in large numbers spontaneously and paid rich tributes to the departed summiteer, who made the district and country proud by accomplishing several feats in the world mountaineering arena. Crowds stopped the van carrying the mortal remains at Tada, Sullurupeta, Gudur and . The mountineers’s body was earlier brought to Delhi from Argentina in the morning and then, flown to Chennai by a special aircraft from where it was brought to native place by road.

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana along with several of his Ministerial colleagues and ruling party leaders arrived at Gandhi Janasangham in Sangam town. Collector M. Janaki and Joint Collector Imtiaz coordinated the arrangements for the funeral. Mountaineer’s sister Dorasanamma was seen seated beside the body in the vehicle. A pall of gloom descended on the native place as the family members and relatives broke down emotionally on seeing the body.
