Commander of CPI (Maoist), Khammam district special guerrilla squad, Kursam Rambabu (25) alias Arun, and squad member Madhavi Jogi alias Uma, 23, surrendered themselves before the district Superintendent of Police A V Ranganath here on Wednesday.
According to the police, Rambabu and Jogi fell in love and quit the armed struggle to unite in wedlock. Announcing the surrender of the duo here, Mr Ranganath said Rambabu, a native of Bollaram in Wajedu mandal, joined the Venkatapuram local guerrilla squad during the period of dialogue between the State Government and Maoists in 2004. He was involved in two murder cases including the killing of a home guard at Parnashala besides several other cases. He also participated in exchanges of fire with the police at Mangi area and Nimmalagudem villages in the past. Jogi joined the banned outfit in 2010 and subsequently shifted to NTSZC platoon in 2012. She took part in the Maoist raid on an outpost of security forces near Minapa in Sukma district of the neighbouring Chhattisgarh on May 17.
She was also involved in offences like blasting of a cell phone tower and torching of hydraulic excavator in the Bhadrachalam division. Rambabu carried a reward of Rs 4 lakh on his head. The reward amount will be handed over to him, the SP said. Many of the underground cadres are reportedly suffering from various health ailments and they could surrender without any apprehensions for availing medical treatment rehabilitation package.
