Maoists escape police net

A group of about a dozen Maoists led by the CPI (Maoist) Galikonda area committee secretary Krishna reportedly escaped from the police dragnet at Yerracheruvula village in G.K. Veedhi mandal on Sunday morning.

They left behind a couple of double barrel guns and eight kit bags.

Three militia members of the village were reportedly taken into custody.

It was learnt that three companies of police encircled the forest near the village on information that the Maoists were moving in the area. For three days, the Maoists could not move to another area due to the police presence and had to go without food.

Finally on Saturday morning, they entered Yerracheruvulua village on the G.K.Veedhi-Koyyuru border. As the police cautiously moved towards the village, the Maoists received a tip-off and they started leaving.

On seeing the Maoists leaving the village, the police fired at them, but Krishna and the other Maoists did not return the fire and escaped unhurt, in what would have been a major encounter.
