A man handed out severe punishment to his nine-year-old son for not focusing on academics by branding the boy’s back with a spatula.
The incident took place at Ramanayyapeta in the city late on Friday and came to light on Saturday morning, when the headmaster of the school in which the boy was studying noticed the injuries.
The headmaster lodged a complaint with the police against the boy’s father, Eegala Venu, a resident of Gollaveedhi in Ramanayyapeta.
According to the Sarpavaram police, the children of Venu -- Siddhu and Lavanya -- are studying in Municipal Upper Primary School.
On Friday night, Venu, a small-time trader, enquired his children about their progress in studies.
Irked by the poor performance of Siddhu, Venu started caning him.
Soon, he rushed to the kitchen and snatched the spatula from his wife and branded the boy’s back with it. The boy sustained injuries, but attended school on Saturday morning.
Headmaster of the school, Ch. Subba Rao, noticed the injuries and immediately took the children to the police station and lodged a complaint. A case was registered under Section 324 against Venu who is at large.
The boy is undergoing treatment in a private hospital.
