The Additional District Sessions Judge Court on Monday awarded seven years imprisonment to Kankipati Kalyan Babu and his sister, K. Vijaya Kumari, in a rape case.

In April 2012, the accused asked the victim and their childhood friend to come their home, located at Guntupalli, on the city outskirts. Later, Vijaya Kumari pushed the woman into a room and her brother sexually assaulted her.

Following a complaint, the Ibrahimpatnam police registered a case and took up investigation. As the guilt was proved against the accused, the court gave the conviction and imposed ₹4,000 and ₹2,000 fine on the accused respectively, said the police.
