Man dies in police custody in Prakasam

A 27-year-old man picked up by the Chirala sub-division police in Prakasam District in connection with a theft case, died while in police custody on Wednesday.

Chirala town Circle Inspector N. Satyanarayana said the man, B. Poornachandra Rao from Ponnur in Guntur District, was brought to the Karamchedu police station from Vijayawada and questioned in connection with the recovery of stolen valuables in a theft case.

He suddenly developed fits and was rushed to the Chirala Area Hospital, where he succumbed to his illness, the police officer said. A case was registered under 176 Cr.Pc.

Ongole Revenue Division Officer K. Srinivasa Rao conducted an inquiry.
