The industrially backward Prakasam district is all set to host India’s first National Investment and Manufacturing Zone and give a boost to the BJP-led NDA Government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign.
The Centre has given its final approval for the NIMZ in Kandukur division of Prakasam district. A communication to this effect was received by Ongole MP Y.V. Subba Reddy on Monday.
The MP exhorted the State government to transfer land immediately to the special purpose vehicle (SPV) for bringing to fruition the project with an investment of Rs. 10,899 crore in the first phase.
The approval came in the wake of the State government assuring the Centre of making available 10 sq km of land in one block for the project without any displacement of people in Pamur and P.C. Palli mandals.
The district administration has issued orders for giving advance possession of 1800 acres of government land to the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Investment Corporation (APIIC) and identified in all 12,500 acres of land (50 sq km) including lands assigned to Dalits and those with private individuals for the prestigious project to turn the district into a manufacturing hub.
While the State government will provide the land for the project, the Centre will provide physical infrastructure for the project which is expected to attract investment of over Rs. 4,37,000 crore.
