The Telugu Desam Party has said that making Hyderabad the second capital of the country was the only solution to the Statehood issue as the city will be acceptable to people from both Telangana and coastal regions.

The polit bureau member of TDP Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy told a press conference on Friday that none of the leaders across parties would have objection to Hyderabad as the second national capital because it will enhance the reputation of the city and quell all tensions. As a result, further investments would flow and the people from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema districts would also have more security, he claimed.

Mr. Reddy criticised Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram’s opposition to the proposal on the ground that it was not feasible and accused him of creating obstacles.

He said that earmarking 4,000 to 5,000 acres required to create infrastructure would not be difficult. The TDP did not consider the proposal for political gain, he added.

The TDP spokesman Varla Ramaiah asked separately why the Enforcement Directorate was silent about attachment of properties of YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy after having detected illegal assets in his possession to the tune of Rs. 800 crore.

He demanded a legislation on the lines of the ones existing in Bihar and Odisha for confiscating the properties by the State.
