The political parties are in a disarray of sorts in the Chittoor Assembly constituency, with the total silence in the Congress quarters, groupism in the Telugu Desam Party, and lack of coordination in the YSRC camp ahead of the elections.
Silence in Cong. camp As a matter of fact, unlike other constituencies in the district, the Congress never enjoyed a special identity in Chittoor. The party affairs are totally handled by former MLA C.K. Jayachandra Reddy alias C.K. Babu. Except for organisation sake, there is no second leader in the party here. During the Samaikyandra movement in the district, Mr. Babu had announced that his future course of action would depend on the aspirations of the people of the constituency. In recent days, rumours were doing the rounds that that he would represent the proposed political party of former Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy. But to the contrary, he has given enough hints that he would contest as an independent candidate in the coming polls.
Bickering mars TDP Coming to the Telugu Desam Party, it is facing a clear split among the cadres. Party district president, Jangalapalle Srinivasulu, who declared that he was the MLA candidate, is now finding it hard to tackle the rebellious campaign by his deputy in the party, Katari Mohan, whose influence is said to be limited to a couple of divisions in Chittoor town. Now, Mr. Mohan is organising separate campaigns in various localities in the town, giving an impression of being a strong contender for the party tickets.
Poor structure batters YSRC
The YSR Congress, which has failed to raise the flag in the local body polls in the constituency, is hit by poor organisational structure. Except for the presence of party local coordinator A.S. Manohar, the party's Mahila leader P.V. Gayatri Devi and half a dozen cadres, the YSRC has no representation at the grass-roots level. The mixed public response during Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy's road-shows and public meeting in Chittoor recently had unnerved the cadres.
