The water samples collected from different parts of the city by the activists of the Lok Satta Party (LSP) showed that the water supplied by the civic body in at least six localities was highly contaminated. The water supplied by the Municipal Corporation in Pragati Colony, Godugupalem and Viratnagar was unfit for consumption, said party Prakasam district president A.Ramesh Reddy, displaying the collected samples at a press conference here on Wednesday.

Sustained campaign

Water supplied to the residents of Sujathanagar, Nallavagu centre and Godalagunta was also polluted, added its district general secretary Ch. Ratnakumari and vice-president Md. Rafi Ahamad.

“We will hand over the water samples to Municipal Commissioner Ch.Vijayalakshmi on Monday and seek her intervention to ensure supply of safe drinking water in all the wards,” they said.

“We will undertake a sustained campaign to impress upon the civic body to provide safe drinking water in all the localities as contaminated water is the main cause for diseases,” they added along with its Ongole constituency president V.Anjaneyulu and city president Sk. Rafi.

Govt. claim disputed

Mr Ramesh Reddy disputed the State government’s claim that jobs were ensured for 70,000 people under the Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu. Even those who had got placement in campus interviews conducted in engineering colleges and the jobs generated in newly set up units seeking various clearances, were included in the list, he said.

The party would undertake a month-long campaign in support of young widows who had lost the family’s breadwinner due to excessive liquor consumption, they said.
